Latest NewsEHBA Life Membership Award – Karen Johns
4th October 2025
Karen Johns has been part of EHBA since 1975, when junior basketball was first introduced. Over the years she has refereed, played well into her forties, represented the Hornets, and stayed involved until injuries kept her off the court. Even then, her love for the game never left.
What has meant the most to karen is watching her children grow in a sport that her mum helped to build. Karen had the joy of seeing so many young players come through the ranks — from Under 10s all the way to seniors — and achieve their goals, not just as players, but as people.
For many years karen helped out in the EHBA office before stepping onto the committee 11 years ago. Standing beside Brett, her son has been one of the greatest experiences of her life, watching him pour his heart into the association and shape it into what it is today.
Carrying on her mum’s legacy, and sharing this journey with Brett, has been a great privilege to her, and now to receive Life Membership alongside her son Brett, as his mother, is a moment of pride and joy to treasure.
Well deserved and congratulations Karen, we all thank for your unwavering commitment.
